Natural vs. Lab-Grown Diamonds – Which is Right for You?

Both natural and lab-grown diamonds offer stunning beauty—the right choice depends on what matters most to you.

Natural Diamonds – Formed over billions of years beneath the earth, each carries a unique history and rarity.
Lab-Grown Diamonds – Created using the HPHT (High-Pressure High-Temperature) method, ensuring exceptional quality, brilliance, and durability

The Diamond 4 C's - Explained

Diamond 4 C's Colour guide image

The 4C's - Diamond Colour

Diamond colour impacts both its beauty and value. In most cases, the less colour, the rarer and more valuable the diamond—but there are exceptions, like fancy-coloured diamonds (pink, yellow, blue) that have their unique appeal.

The GIA colour scale grades diamonds from D (completely colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Each grade is assessed under controlled lighting to ensure accuracy.

💎 My Approach: I help you understand how colour influences a diamond’s look and price so you can balance beauty and budget.

Diamond 4 C's clarity guide image

The 4 C's - Diamond Clarity

Clarity measures a diamond’s natural inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external). Nearly all diamonds have some imperfections, but most are too small to see without magnification.

The GIA clarity scale ranges from:

  • FL (Flawless) – No imperfections visible under 10x magnification.
  • VS (Very Slightly Included) – Minor inclusions, barely visible under magnification.
  • I1–I3 (Included) – Noticeable imperfections that can affect appearance.

The 4C's - Diamond Cut

Cut is the most important of the 4Cs—it determines a diamond’s brilliance, fire, and sparkle. A well-cut diamond acts like a mirror, bouncing light through its facets and returning it to the eye.

Diamond cuts range from Excellent to Poor, with shapes including:
💎 Round Brilliant, Princess, Oval, Marquise, Pear, and Emerald.

💎 My Approach: I help you choose a cut that maximizes brilliance, ensuring your diamond has the sparkle it deserves.

Diamond 4 C'Carat guide image

The 4C's - Diamond Carat

Carat weight refers to the physical weight of a diamond, not its size. 1 carat = 0.2 grams, but the appearance can vary based on the cut and proportions.

💎 A larger diamond isn’t always the better choice—I help you explore options where a slightly smaller carat weight with a superior cut may offer more brilliance and value.

HPHT vs. CVD – The Diamond Growth Process Matters

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, but their quality varies. While mass-produced CVD diamonds are often cheaper, HPHT diamonds offer superior brilliance and consistency.

That’s why David exclusively endorses HPHT diamonds in his lab-grown diamond ring creations.

Produces natural-looking diamonds with exceptional colour, clarity, and brilliance, requiring no post-growth enhancements

A mass-produced process often requires artificial treatments to improve colour and clarity.

I only offer hand-selected HPHT lab diamonds for flawless brilliance—ensuring exceptional quality and beauty in every engagement ring I create.

Why You Should Consider a Lab-Grown Diamond

Lab-grown diamonds eliminate the need for mining, reducing the ecological footprint while maintaining the brilliance and durability of a natural diamond.

With the same chemical, optical, and physical properties as mined diamonds, lab-grown diamonds offer exceptional clarity and radiance.

Lab diamonds allow you to opt for a stone with higher specifications while staying within budget, giving you more freedom to create your perfect ring.

Lab-grown diamonds are created using advanced technology, offering significant cost savings without sacrificing beauty or craftsmanship.
